The Hansens

Just outside of Hanna lies a beautiful tract of prairie that is home to That Country Place Bed and Breakfast. Although the land has been connected with Operation Grassland Community for many years, current owners Terri and Dean Hansen, along with their daughter Kiera, were keen to work with OGC and signed on as new members in 2013.

In the midst of keeping busy running the B&B, the Hansens find time to incorporate their love of wildlife into activities for both themselves and their guests. Through their Bed & Bail & Birdwatching initiative, they encourage visitors to explore the land by providing use of binoculars, bird books, and access to their acreage. Daughter Kiera is a nature lover in her own right—especially amphibians and reptiles—and is all too happy to join in during OGC’s tours on the property, pointing out any frogs or snakes seen along the way.

The Hansen’s respect of the land and wild species that inhabit it—along with their enthusiasm for sharing that interest—helps to spread the message of how proper land management can be the very best thing for preserving the natural ecosystem. Providing these opportunities to those who might not otherwise have any idea about the importance of the grassland ecosystem is why OGC is so happy to have the Hansens as members.
